The National Road Safety Council has issued several proposals to reduce the number of road deaths in 2000 against 3653 currently. Among these, the decrease of the maximum speed of 90-80 km / h.

How to increase the annual number of road deaths below 2,000 deaths? The experts of the National Road Safety Council (NCRP) have been working on the subject at the request of its president, the deputy PS Lower Rhine Armand Jung. Their report, submitted in confidence earlier this week, has been consulted by the Agence France Presse, which publishes the main recommendations. These proposals form the basis for discussions of the 51 members of the NSRF, which will meet on 29 November.

• Lower the Speed to 80 km / h on National and Departmental

Decrease speed of 10 km / h on these lines would save 450 lives each year, according to the report. This suggests two scenarios: a speed of 80 km / h across the network concerned, or only on hazardous areas. In this second case, the number of lives saved would be 200.

• Remove Barriers on Roads

How many lives end tragically against a tree, pole, or in a ditch? The NCRP report proposes to delete the maximum of these deadly obstacles, very present on the secondary roads. This would prevent 120-270 fatalities.

• The Breathalysers for Young

The report proposes to require young drivers to install alcolock on their car. This unit turns on when the ignition is switched on, and asks the driver to blow into the breathalyzer. If your BAC is too high, the car will not start. This device is already mandatory in vehicles used to transport children placed in service since 2010.

To help get this obligation, the report indicates that the installation of breathalyser could be accompanied by a reduction in the insurance premium. Controlled with more than 0.8 grams of alcohol people, and persistent offenders may also be subject to install a breathalyzer in their car.

• More Radars

Finally, the NCRP proposes to develop the “automated control sanction” – in other words, radar. The money collected by them is expected to “finance measures directly affecting road safety.” The report also recommends implementing communication campaigns “more responsive and relevant.”

Friday, Nice-Matin said that two radars of a new type were to be installed in Cote d’Azur. These flashent depending on the speed, but also the size of the vehicle to detect speeding trucks, for example.
